On June 19, the American company General Electric stopped servicing gas turbines of its production, installed at Russian thermal power plants, after the entry into force of extended US sanctions.
As “Kommersant” reports with reference to representatives of generating companies, GE has closed access to the system for monitoring the operation of turbines from Russia, and in the future it may stop the supply of spare parts for its turbines and that of Alstom, including blades.
The total capacity of GE gas turbines in the Russian power system is 5 GW, and the total capacity of power units is 8 GW. The suspension of service is most critical for the most powerful models that are installed at the power units of Surgutskaya GRES-2, Shaturskaya GRES and Sredneuralskaya GRES, Kommersant notes.
GE stopped servicing gas turbines after the entry into force of a new package of US sanctions prohibiting American companies from providing engineering services to any persons in Russia.
The decision on the complete termination of cooperation on the part of Western colleagues is expected, interlocutors in Russian generating companies told the publication. They are considering the possibility of localizing the production of spare parts and service in Russia. In particular, Inter RAO has a joint venture with GE, Russian Gas Turbines.
The USA and the European Union have not yet introduced sanctions directly prohibiting the supply of components for gas turbines to Russia.
