Georgy Shuppe, the founder of Russia’s first private Internet provider Cityline, died in London at the age of 52. This was reported by the publication “Agency”. According to acquaintances of the entrepreneur, he had heart problems.
“Agency” was unable to contact Shuppe’s relatives.
Shuppe created “Cityline” in 1996. By the time the work was completed in 2001, the provider served more than 150,000 subscribers.
The entrepreneur was engaged in investments in free Russian-language content on the Internet. Thanks to Shuppe’s financing, among others, the publication “Lenta.ru”, the project of Anton Nosyk “Evening Internet”, the studio of Artemiy Lebedev were opened.
Since 2004, Shuppe lived in London and engaged in venture investments in high-tech startups.
Shuppe is the former son-in-law of businessman Boris Berezovsky. He was married to the daughter of a businessman from 1997 to 2012.
In 2014, the Investigative Committee of Russia accused Shuppe of involvement in the murder of the founder of the “Partiya” chain of stores, Alexander Mineev. The entrepreneur was declared a federal wanted man. In 2017, a British court refused to extradite Russia.
