The European Commission is considering the possibility of adopting an additional package of support measures for EU farmers affected by the influx of Ukrainian agricultural products.
This was stated by the spokesperson of the European Commission on April 17 in Brussels, reports “European Truth” with reference to the publication Euractiv.
“We are currently working on a second package of measures, within the framework of which we will continue to support these countries that have been affected by supplies from Ukraine,” said a representative of the European Commission.
The first package of measures in size 56 million euros aid to Poland, Bulgaria and Romania, the member states agreed at the end of March.
However, this package failed to appease Polish farmers, who staged protests that led to the dismissal of Agriculture Minister Henryk Kowalczyk.
As the second package is still under discussion, the European Commission declined to provide further details on the amount, timing or criteria for the allocation of funds.
However, the European Commission noted that the first package was “adopted very quickly.”
“It was approved quite quickly, we expect the same for the second support measure,” said the EC representative.
The Commission is taking this step after the decision of Poland, Hungary and Slovakia to ban the import of agricultural goods from Ukraine.
“EvroPravda” told in an article about how the export of Ukrainian grain caused tension in the relations between Ukraine and Poland “Dangerous grain”.
