Great Britain announced a new package of sanctions against Belarus

[ad_1]

Great Britain announced on Thursday a new package of sanctions against the authorities of Belarus for its role in facilitating the Russian invasion of Ukraine. Further measures include a ban on imports and steps aimed at preventing the spread of propaganda on the Internet, writes Reuters.

“The new package increases the economic pressure on Alexander Lukashenko and his regime, which actively supports Russia’s efforts in the war, ignoring the principle of territorial integrity of Ukraine,” said the statement of British Foreign Minister James Cleverly.

Sanctions include a ban on the import of gold, cement, wood and rubber from Belarus and at the same time blocking the export to Belarus from Great Britain of banknotes, industrial equipment, as well as goods, technologies and materials that can be used for the production of chemical and biological weapons.

As for the counteraction to the “spread of propaganda in Great Britain” by some Belarusian resources, as follows from the message of the British authorities, they will use the restriction of access to such websites through social network companies and Internet providers.

Steps to restrict access to the financial markets of Great Britain are provided separately. These measures are connected with the desire to prevent possible cases of circumvention of sanctions.

  • Belarus assists Russia in its war against Ukraine, but does not directly participate in hostilities. At the same time, the Russian contingent and military aviation are stationed in the country.
  • At the end of May this year, Alexander Lukashenko announced the beginning of the transfer of non-strategic nuclear weapons from Russia to the country. Earlier, in March, Russian President Vladimir Putin announced the corresponding plans, noting that the construction of the necessary storage facility in Belarus should be completed by July 1.
