The cat Twix, who was thrown out into the cold by a train conductor, was found dead. The owner of Tviks, Edgar Haifullin, identified his body.
Gaifullin thanked everyone who helped in the search and promised to do everything so that the guilty were punished.
Activists launched a petition with the demand to open a criminal case against the conductor. The petition is addressed to the Investigative Committee of Russia. The author of the petition, Ekaterina Sergeeva, reported in the volunteer chat that she also wrote to the SC directly, attached a link to the petition. She was told that the police are investigating the circumstances of the incident.
Earlier, the First Deputy Chairman of the State Duma Committee on Ecology, Natural Resources and Environmental Protection Vladimir Burmatov said that a case should be initiated under the criminal article on animal cruelty. He promised to contact the prosecutor’s office if the police did not open a case.
Twix disappeared from the carrier on the Yekaterinburg-St. Petersburg train at the station in Kirov on January 11. The next day, the owner of the cat turned to volunteers for help in the search. Later, a video appeared showing that Twix was thrown from the train by a conductor. It was cold outside to -30°C. The conductor explained that she questioned the passengers, but no one identified as the owner of the cat – so she decided to throw the animal away, considering it to be homeless.
At the same time, a special ticket was issued for the cat, the animal was accompanied by a relative of the owner.
The police did not initiate a criminal case under the article on self-government, stating that the cause of the cat’s disappearance was the inattentive attitude towards it on the part of the attendant. The Sverdlovsk Transport Prosecutor’s Office organized an investigation into the improper provision of services in the transportation of animals.
Russian Railways expressed its regrets and apologized to the owner of Twiks and conducted an official investigation. Conductors will now be prohibited from disembarking animals from the train. Instead, the detected animals will have to be handed over to station workers and representatives of animal welfare organizations called.
