Today, the state encourages business in every possible way to do this – it launches many grant programs for starting one’s own business, developing entrepreneurship and training.

Mykhailo Medko, a member of the board of Ukreximbank, told about what grants are currently available for farmers, how they are useful and how they work.

Six areas of the “eRobota” grant program

One of the largest was the state grant program “eRobota”, which started on July 1, 2022. It is aimed at boosting entrepreneurial activity and creating new jobs.

The project consists of six different programs. Here’s what you can get grants for:

  • for any micro-business;
  • for the expansion or creation of enterprises in the field of processing;
  • for planting gardens;
  • for the construction of new greenhouses;
  • on the creation and development of IT startups;
  • for training in the field of information technologies.

In total, in the current year, 109 farms received state aid in the amount of almost 418 million hryvnias for the development of gardens and greenhouses. In particular, UAH 336.7 million was paid to 92 households for gardens. Another 17 received 81.3 million hryvnias – for the greenhouse. Since the beginning of the program, 467 million hryvnias have been paid to 118 business entities.

At the end of 2022, the state-owned Ukreximbank began accepting applications for participation in the YeRobota grant program. To date, 5 clients of the Bank have received grant support from the state in the total amount of UAH 24.782 million.

According to the program, farmers have the opportunity to receive a grant of up to UAH 10 million through the bank – up to 70% of the project cost.

Ukreximbank is considering for grant financing the projects of planting and arrangement of gardens, berry orchards, vineyards with an area of 1 ha to 25 ha and construction of modular greenhouses with an area of up to 2.4 ha.

Grant funds can be used to finance the planting of plantations or the construction of complexes, the purchase of seed material, fertilizers, technical equipment, etc.

Requirements for applicants include ownership of land or the right to use it for a period of at least seven years. The grant project implementation period is 12 months from the date of receipt of funding.

“In December, the bank joined the initiatives of the Ministry of Agrarian Policy and the Ministry of Economy and became the second bank – a participant in the budget program for granting grants to small and medium-sized producers of fruit, berry and vegetable products,” commented Mykhailo Medko, a member of the board of Ukreximbank.

– The purpose of this program is to stimulate the development of the agricultural sector to ensure the food security of the state, the growth of domestic exports and the saturation of our market with quality products.

Thanks to grant support, small and medium-sized agricultural producers significantly improve their opportunities to invest in new plantations and construction. And therefore – to expand the number of employees, grow more products, make a profit and pay taxes.”

Successful cases of farmers who not only continue to work in war conditions, but also develop their production, inspire and motivate other colleagues to use the opportunities to attract financing.

Lviv Garden LLC, for example, having received financing from Ukreximbank in the amount of UAH 4.252 million, continues to delight local markets and buyers in the countries of the European Union, Asia and the Middle East with high-quality ecological apples of the most popular varieties.
