Human rights activists called on the EU to prevent the extradition of Alexei Moskalev to the Russian Federation

Human rights activists from the “Memorial” center and the “OVD-Info” project appealed to the European Commission and the Council of Europe to pay attention to the persecution of Alexei Moskalev and his daughter Maria in Russia.
The authors of the letter ask international authorities to use all available means to prevent the extradition of Moskalev from the Republic of Belarus to Russia.
Human rights activists also note that it is necessary to seek the transfer of Moskalev to a third country that is safe and ready to accept him.
“The protection of human rights and civil liberties is one of the main priorities of the European Union and the Council of Europe and is an obligation assumed by all its members,” the appeal states.
- The Moskalyovs live in the town of Efremov, Tula Region. The father raises his daughter alone.
- In the spring of last year, Maria Moskalyova drew an anti-war picture during a school lesson. The drawing teacher told the school principal about this, and turned to the police. The Moskalyovs’ apartment was searched.
- In the father’s social networks, the police found comments in support of Ukraine, as well as caricatures of Russian President Vladimir Putin. After that, Alexey Moskalyov was first reported under the article of the Administrative Code on the discrediting of the Russian army, fined 32 thousand rubles, and then a criminal case was opened on the same charge.
- On March 28, the Efremovsky district court sentenced Alexei Moskalev to two years in a general regime colony. The defendant was not present at the hearing, as he had escaped from house arrest the day before.
- Moskalyov was later detained in Minsk by the Belarusian Ministry of Internal Affairs.
- Maria Moskaleva is in an orphanage. From there she wrote a letter in which she supported her father. The girl’s mother and her second husband live in the Tambov region. She expressed her readiness to take Maria to her place and “remove” thoughts about politics.
