The court in Cherepovets sentenced the local human rights defender Gregory Vynter to three years in prison on the charge of so-called fakes about the Russian army. This was reported by the correspondent of Sever.Realia.

Vynter was condemned for a comment in “VKontakte” about the actions of the Russian military in the Kyiv region. The prosecutor asked for more than six years in prison for him.

The human rights defender has diabetes – and he took a large bag with medicines to the announcement of the sentence, writes “Sota”. The day before, he asked the President of Russia, Vladimir Putin, to allow him voluntary euthanasia in the event of a real deadline.

Winter is afraid that they will not be able to provide him with the necessary medicines in the colony – and he will face “a painful death among strangers, cruel and extremely indifferent people.” Earlier, he already had difficulties with obtaining insulin in the pre-trial detention center.

Gregory Winter is the former Vologda coordinator of the “For human rights” movement. He also helped representatives of LGBT+ and homeless animals. During the investigation, Winter tried to house the ten cats that lived with him. “Memorial” considers Winter a political prisoner.

  • According to “OVD-Info” estimates, at least 810 people have been prosecuted for their anti-war stance in Russia, including 251 against them for an article about fakes about the Russian army. Cases against 137 of them were brought to court: 70 last year and 67 the previous year, according to the General Prosecutor’s Office of Russia.
