Opposition politician Ilya Yashin, who is in a colony in the Smolensk region, was sent to a detention center for ten days. This was reported by his lawyer Mikhail Biryukov.
On April 3, Yashin had a short meeting with his mother. Immediately after that, he was taken to the disciplinary commission, where the punishment was determined. This happened a few hours after the visit to the colony by the head of the FSIN Regional Office Alexander Trachuk, the lawyer said.
According to his words, Yashin allegedly took off his jacket while sitting at the table before breakfast. This, according to Biryukov, served as a formal reason for the politician’s induction into the SHIZO, “The real reason is the ongoing pressure on political prisoners, their deliberate isolation not only from the outside world, but also from other convicts, the demand will leave their will, suppress, break” – said Ilya Yashin’s lawyer, Mikhail Biryukov.
- In 2022, Ilya Yashin was sentenced to eight years in prison for the article about the so-called fakes about the army
- Yashin is one of the most famous Russian oppositionists deprived of their freedom. He did not admit guilt. Human rights organizations consider the politician a political prisoner.
- After the death of Alexei Navalny in the colony, Yashin turned to world leaders with a request to seek from the Russian authorities the speedy release of the second oppositionist – Vladimir Kara-Murza, who was sentenced to 25 years in the colony on charges of treason, cooperation with an undesirable organization and fakes about the Russian army. Yashin noted that both Navalny and Kara-Murza “created personal problems” for the entourage of Russian President Vladimir Putin.
