In 2023, the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Russia registered 410 incidents that are considered acts of terrorism. This is a record figure since 2003, when 561 terrorist acts were recorded. The publication “Verstka” drew attention to the data of the Ministry of Internal Affairs.

Journalists note that if in 2021, 41 incidents were recorded in Russia that were considered terrorist attacks, then in 2022 this figure increased to 127 cases.

“Vyorstka” emphasizes that in the last two years, Russian law enforcement agencies have considered arson or attempted arson of military enlistment offices and other bodies connected to the authorities as acts of terrorism. According to the statistics of the Ministry of Internal Affairs, from February 2022 to January 2023, 220 such incidents were registered. It is claimed that 85% of arson cases were solved.

Also, the Russian authorities recognize the actions of the Armed Forces, in particular, drone strikes, as terrorist acts. The head of the Main Intelligence Directorate (GUR) of the Ministry of Defense of Ukraine, Lieutenant General Kirill Budanov, is accused by the Investigative Committee of Russia of complicity in the commission of 104 terrorist attacks. Charges of terrorism have also been brought against the commander of the Air Force of the Armed Forces of Ukraine Mykola Oleshchuk, the commander of the Naval Forces of the Armed Forces of Ukraine Alexei Neyzhpapa and the commander of the 383rd separate regiment of remotely controlled aircraft of the Air Force of Ukraine Serhiy Burdenyuk.
