Last year, a record number of men with disabilities aged 31 to 59 was registered in Russia over the past eight years. This was reported by “Vyorstka”, which analyzed the data of the Pension and Social Insurance Fund.
According to these data, at the end of 2023, there were 2.17 million disabled men in the age group of 31-59 living in Russia. This is 507 thousand more than in 2022, when there were 1.67 million. This is a record increase over the last eight years.
Also, in 2023, one of the largest indicators was recorded in the category of men with disabilities aged 18 to 30 – 290 thousand people. It is impossible to compare it with the previous year, since the data for 2022 are hidden by Rosstat.
Experts believe that the increase in male disability is connected with the war in Ukraine, although they note that this is not necessarily the only factor. “Even partial them [военнослужащих – РС] falling into this statistic can change it. I think that there are actually tens of thousands, if not hundreds, of military invalids. If the increase is less, it means that they are partially or completely hidden,” demographer Alexey Raksha told Vörstke.
