In Blagoveshchensk, a criminal case was opened against the pediatrician Maria Mekhedova under the article on the justification of terrorism for commenting on the death of the pro-war blogger Vladlen Tatarsky. Mehedova herself reported this to Sibir.Realii.
Tatarsky died as a result of an explosion in a cafe in St. Petersburg in early April. A statuette previously given to him by Daria Trepova, who was later arrested on charges of terrorist attack, exploded.
In May, FSB officers came to Mehedova and confiscated her and her husband’s phones. Then it was reported that the doctor was charged under an administrative article about the so-called discrediting of the army.
Before that, in December last year, Mehedov had already been fined 30,000 rubles under the article on discrediting. Later, Mehedova reported threats against her and harassment, which was directed against her by the parents of children to whom she provided medical assistance.
It is not known exactly what comments the investigation sees as justification for terrorism. According to the criminal case on the justification of terrorism, the pediatrician faces up to 7 years in prison. This article is also used to persecute activists: on the eve of the bicentenary in Primorye, an anarchist was jailed for calling 17-year-old Mikhail Zhlobytskyi, who blew up a bomb in the Arkhangelsk Federal Security Service as a sign of protest against the fabrication of cases and torture in the FSB, a “brave boy.”
- On Wednesday, Sibir.Realii reports, in the Krasnoyarsk region, a 20-year-old former student of a branch of the Balakhty Agrarian Technical College was sentenced to two years in a penal colony under the article on public calls for terrorist activity on the Internet. The verdict was handed down by the First Eastern District Military Court. According to the investigation, he proposed in a public telegram channel to commit arson, explosions and “other acts of sabotage” against the facilities of state authorities and “attack law enforcement officers.” The FSB also charged the student with moderating a second Telegram channel with similar content.
- As “Taiga” notes, since the beginning of 2023, the First Eastern District Military Court has received about 50 cases of appeals to terrorism. Among them is the case of a resident of Rubtsovsk, who was fined 400,000 rubles for posts on the Telegram channel.
