A court in Brazil imposed a ban on the popular Internet messenger Telegram. Earlier, this was demanded by the federal police. According to the Brazilian authorities, groups of extremists accused of armed attacks on schools could be communicating in the telegram.
The police discovered telegram chats of several neo-Nazi groups – “Brazilian Anti-Semitic Movement” and “Anti-Semitic Front”. These chats, in particular, were found in the phone of a teenager accused of shooting at two schools last November. As a result of the attack, four people were killed and 13 were wounded.
The Telegram administration was unable to provide full data on these chats at the request of the police, citing the fact that the chats have already been deleted. The court decided to stop the work of Telegram in Brazil. In addition, the owners of the messenger will be obliged to pay a fine of 200,000 dollars for each day of non-compliance with the court decision. The court also recommended that Apple and Google platforms remove the ability to download the messenger from their online stores, and Internet providers to block access to Telegram.
