In Russian-controlled Donetsk, FSB officers detained the general director of the “Donbas Railways” concern, Vladimir Kabatsiya. The video of the detention is published by the “Mash na Donbass” channel. Kabatsiya was detained right at the working meeting.
According to the FSB, the director of the concern transferred state property to third parties and thereby abused his powers. There are no other details of the case.
The cross-border concern “Donbas Railways” was created by Russian-backed separatists in the Donetsk and Luhansk regions in 2019. After Russia announced the annexation of four regions of Ukraine in the autumn of last year, the company was re-registered under Russian legislation, and it was headed by Kabatsy, who was previously the head of the Donetsk Railway.
At the same time, in May 2023, the Russian government ordered the creation of another railway concern called “Railways of Novorossiya” in the occupied territories. It should unite the railways of all four regions. The head office of this enterprise is located in Donetsk. It was reported that employees of “Donbass Railways” can get a job in a new concern. At the same time, “Donbas Railways” itself was not disbanded.
In recent months, there have been reports that the Russian authorities are working on the construction of a railway from the territory of the Russian Rostov region through Donetsk to Mariupol, and also presumably in the direction of Berdyansk and Crimea.
