The attacker attacked passers-by in the Israeli city of Ra’anana, 19 kilometers from Tel Aviv. According to the emergency services, he stabbed his first victim several times and stole her car, and then made several consecutive attacks on pedestrians. The owner of the car died. At least 17 people were injured. There are children among the victims.
The attacker was arrested. The police reported that this is a 44-year-old Palestinian, a resident of the city of Hebron on the West Bank of the Jordan River, who worked illegally in Israel. His relative, who is suspected of complicity, was also detained. The security services are investigating whether there was a political motive in the attack.
The special services do not rule out that the attacker may have had other accomplices. The mayor of Raanana ordered schools to be closed and urged citizens not to let children out on the streets until the situation is clarified.
