The authorities of Karelian Medvezhyegorsk are going to release more than 60 dogs from the municipal shelter due to the lack of money for their maintenance. This was reported by the “Medvezhyegorsk online” publication.

The volunteer and founder of the local animal protection organization “Pravo na zhizn” Iryna Povoroznyk confirmed the information about the plans to publish animals in the editorial office of Sever.Realii. For two years, the organization took care of shelter pets under a contract with the municipality. However, last year the authorities decided to operate the shelter independently.

According to Povoroznyk, initially she was only aware of plans to release 15 animals. The management of the shelter contacted the animal rights activist with the offer to take these dogs to a small private shelter in Petrozavodsk, which Povoroznyk runs together with Oksana Derevenko, the head of “Prava na zhizn”.

“We requested individual registration cards in order to understand the condition of the dogs in general: when were the last vaccinations and whether these animals are really subject to release. Many of them have been in the shelter for more than three years and may simply not be adapted to obtaining food on the street. ” – said the animal rights activist. According to Povoroznyk, the authorities refused to issue these cards, stating that they are not required to pay.

At the same time, the city administration does not see a violation in the actions of the shelter, declaring that “content [в приюте] according to Povoroznyk, over the past six months, the authorities have allocated more than three million rubles for the capture and maintenance of homeless animals. was spent, not provided.

Earlier, the organization “Pravo na zhizn” repeatedly clashed with local officials due to the conditions of keeping dogs and their illegal release into the forest. Local authorities call reports about problems in the shelter “disinformation”.
