In Norilsk, a case was opened against schoolchildren who extinguished the Eternal Flame

In Norilsk, a criminal case was opened against two schoolboys aged 10 and 11 who extinguished the Eternal Flame at the Victory Memorial. The case was initiated under the article on the destruction or damage of memorial structures, as well as objects that perpetuate the memory of those who died in defense of the Fatherland.

According to the investigation, on November 19, two schoolchildren extinguished the flames at the “Eternal Flame” memorial complex with snow and their feet and fled the scene. Their actions were recorded by a street video camera.

Alexey Yakovlev, director of the Department of Ecology and Complex Maintenance of the Norilsk Territory, turned to the police. On November 24, schoolchildren were detained, they said that they extinguished the Eternal Flame “out of curiosity.” According to the schoolchildren, they wanted to check whether it was possible to put out the fire with the help of snow. Employees of the Ministry of Internal Affairs conducted a preventive discussion with schoolchildren and their parents.

Soon, the press service of the SC published a message, which said that the head of the department, Alexander Bastrykin, instructed to open a criminal case against the schoolchildren. After some time, the Krasnoyarsk administration of the SK reported that the case had been initiated. Now the eternal fire has been restored, the structure is “in good working order”, the department noted.
