In Rostov-on-Don, two residents were sentenced for setting fire to a car with the letter Z

In Rostov-on-Don, two local residents – 24-year-old Oleg Denisov and 22-year-old Irina Kuznetsova – were convicted of setting fire to a policeman’s personal car with the letter Z on the back window. They were sentenced to almost three years of imprisonment each with serving the sentence in a settlement colony, reports Kavkaz.Realii.

According to the investigation, Denisov and Kuznetsova set the car on fire in July 2022. The car was “completely destroyed”, the damage exceeded 700 thousand rubles, the prosecutor’s office claims. According to the article, Denisov and Kuznetsova were threatened with up to five years in prison for the intentional destruction of someone else’s property.

The mass media learned about the burning of a police car with the letter Z in mid-August, when the Ministry of Internal Affairs reported on the arrest of suspects. The agency stated that the young people were acting on orders from a certain Telegram channel, which was operated from the territory of Ukraine. The publication of the Rostov prosecutor’s office about the verdict does not mention the so-called Ukrainian trail.

The Ministry of Internal Affairs also stated that a revolver with cartridges was found on the detainees for arson, but, according to official information, Denysov and Kuznetsova were ultimately not charged.

  • The letters Z and V after the start of a full-scale invasion of the territory of Ukraine in 2022 became an unofficial symbol of support for the Russian army.
