In Rostov, the lawyer of the activist who died in the special reception center is being searched

In Rostov-on-Don, law enforcement officers searched Iryna Gak, the lawyer of Anatoly Berezykov, who died in the special detention center, and Tatyana Sporysheva, the public defender. This is reported by “OVD-Info” and “First Department”. It is not yet known what the searches are connected with. Neither Hak nor Sporyshev get in touch.

Human rights defenders note that according to the current legislation, the search, inspection and seizure of the current lawyer is carried out only after the initiation of a criminal case against him or his involvement as an accused.

The local website 1rnd.ru, which is connected to the law enforcement agencies, claims without citing sources that Hak and Sporyshev are being investigated for the article on the dissemination of knowingly false information. At the same time, the 1rnd.ru publication calls the activists “traitors recruited by the Ukrainian special services.”

The day before it became known that due to the fact of Anatoly Berezykov’s death in the Rostov special reception center, a criminal case was initiated under the article of inciting suicide by means of threats, cruel treatment or systematic humiliation of human dignity.

According to the investigators, 40-year-old Berezykov hanged himself in his cell, where he was held under administrative arrest, on the morning of June 14.

Lawyers believe that he could have been killed. Before his death, he said that he was not going to commit suicide, but complained about torture and threats of rape. According to the lawyer, she saw traces of electric shock torture on the body of her client.

Public defender Tatiana Sporysheva also denies the version of Berezykov’s suicide or heart attack. According to her version, the murder could have happened on the night of June 14 outside the special detention center.

• Anatoly Berezykov was detained in Rostov-on-Don on May 10. Presumably, the reason for his detention was the fact that he was pasting leaflets in the city of the Ukrainian project, which accepts applications from the Russian military for surrender. According to him, during the search, his ribs were broken and he was arrested on charges of disobeying the police.
• In addition, it became known to the “First Department” that they were going to open a criminal case against Berezykov on charges of treason.
• Berezykov’s third administrative term was supposed to expire on June 15.
