In Slovenia, two foreigners are suspected of spying for Russia

The Intelligence and Security Service of Slovenia detained two foreign citizens on suspicion of espionage for Russia, 24ur.com and SiolNET report.
According to the publication, the suspects were agents of the GRU and worked in Slovenia under false names. One of them had the citizenship of Argentina. The alleged agents were detained in an office building in the Bezhigrad district of Ljubljana.
In total, they face up to eight years in prison for espionage and giving false testimony when crossing the border.
- On January 26, 2023, a resident of Germany, whose full name has not been disclosed, was detained at the Munich airport. The arrest is connected with the investigation of the case of espionage in the German Federal Intelligence and Counterintelligence Service BND. It is confirmed that the suspect passed on information obtained from a previously arrested employee to one of the Russian special services.
- On January 19, 2023, in Sweden, a former employee of the special services and his brother were found guilty of espionage for Russia. The court sentenced Peiman Kia to life imprisonment, and his brother Payamu to nine years and ten months of imprisonment. The brothers were arrested in November last year, they were both charged with espionage with aggravating circumstances.
- Last October, a Brazilian citizen suspected of working for Russian intelligence was detained in Norway. According to the police, he came to the country to conduct research in the fall of 2021. The department believes that he is in Norway under a fictitious name, but in fact he is a Russian and works for Russian intelligence.
