In St. Petersburg, after a two-day police raid on the Sofia vegetable farm, more than 100 people were detained and taken to military enlistment offices for military registration. This is reported by Kommersant and Fontanka.

According to reports, the purpose of the raid was to check compliance with the migration legislation, while sending people to military enlistment offices was called a “new option” by the police during such inspections. “Taking advantage of the opportunity, the police do not miss the opportunity to further educate Russians,” the State Department of the Ministry of Internal Affairs in St. Petersburg and the Leningrad region said.

In total, the police checked the documents of several hundred people, most of them foreign citizens. It is claimed that 55 of them were in Russia in violation of migration legislation. About 100 people who were sent to military enlistment offices are natives of other countries who recently received Russian passports and did not register for the military.

The head of the Council on Human Rights under the President, Valery Fadeev, said in connection with the raid that when a Russian passport is issued to those who become citizens, it is necessary to immediately put them on the military register, since “new citizens of Russia must have not only rights, but also obligations”, including including “protect the family”.

• A few days ago, residents of St. Petersburg began to report that they were receiving text messages demanding to report to the military enlistment office. The “Rotondy” source in the administration of one of the districts of the city confirmed that the military enlistment offices are sending messages to “check and clarify the data before the autumn draft.” The official admitted that such messages are not legally recognized as subpoenas and non-appearance due to such messages cannot be punished administratively.
• There is no draft for urgent service now. Autumn recruitment should begin on October 1.
• The State Duma recently tightened the law on conscription, several times increased fines for not appearing at the military enlistment office on a summons. In addition, a special electronic register of subpoenas will be created, and the subpoena, according to the amendments that will enter into force on January 1, will be considered delivered at the moment of its entry into the register. From this moment on, the conscript will be prohibited from leaving Russia – until his appearance at the military enlistment office. Summonses will be sent in electronic form through “Gosuslugy”.
