In St. Petersburg, a citizen of the USA and Russia was detained for posting a St. George’s ribbon. According to the Baza Telegram channel, Yuriy Malev, who arrived from Estonia two weeks ago, is being accused of rehabilitating Nazism.
According to the investigation, on May 8 of last year, the suspect published an image of a corpse with a tag in the colors of the ribbon and the caption “How to wear the St. George ribbon correctly.” A pensioner from St. Petersburg complained to the police about Malev.
The detainee faces up to five years in prison.
The press service of the city police confirms the detention without naming. The message refers to the photo, which allegedly expressed clear disrespect for society, days of military glory and memorable dates of Russia associated with the defense of the Fatherland.
- St. George’s ribbon, which coincides in color with the ribbon of the St. George’s Cross established by Catherine II and the Soviet Guard medal ribbon of the Second World War, is used in modern Russia as a symbol of Victory Day, and from 2022 – to support the war against Ukraine.
