In the Bryansk region, the territory of the former concentration camp can be built up

In the Bryansk region, they want to return the territory of the former fascist concentration camp “Dulag-142” to the ownership of the state. At the end of 2020, the entire territory of the plant was sold at an auction to the owner of “Bryan hardware plant” Mykola Rogov. Along with the territory on which the camp was located, the businessman was given a commemorative sign “Dulag-142”. It was placed in the place of one of the buried captives back in Soviet times. Investigative journalist Andrey Zakharov reports this.

The camp appeared in 1941 – shortly after the occupation of Bryansk by Hitler’s troops – and lasted until 1943. 80 thousand people – prisoners of war and civilians – passed through it. More than half of them died or were shot.

Before the war, a factory for the repair of armored vehicles worked on the territory of the camp. After the war, he resumed work and in the 1960s produced units for intercontinental missiles. In 2010, the company was declared bankrupt.

The auctions were followed by a court process with the participation of the bankruptcy administrator and the prosecutor’s office. In 2022, “Dulag-142” was entered into the register of objects of cultural heritage. This means that the monument cannot be demolished.

At the same time, the request to challenge the sale of the entire former territory of the plant was unsuccessful. The Court of Appeal ruled that only those plots where there are burials can be taken from the new owner for the benefit of the state. So far, searchers have found them only in a certain place on an area of ​​more than one hectare, the journalist writes. At the same time, the prosecutor’s office believes that the graves of prisoners can be scattered on the territory of 50 hectares.

The owner of the territory, Nikolay Rogov, in a conversation with Zakharov, confirmed that a memorial complex would be erected on the territory, but the square refused to announce it. The journalist admits that the businessman wants to sell to the state the land where “Dulag-142” is located, together with the burial grounds, but it will be more expensive.

Zakharov also notes that the bankrupt armored car factory had its own museum exposition with 200 exhibits. In January, it was sold for 170,000 rubles (approximately $2,250 at the current exchange rate).
