In the spring, 147 thousand people will be drafted into the Russian army

The President of Russia, Vladimir Putin, signed a decree on spring conscription for conscription in the Russian army. According to the document, they plan to send 147 thousand people to the army. This is 12.5 thousand more than last year. The call will be held from April 1 to July 15.

In this spring conscription, more citizens from 18 to 27 years of age will be called up. Now the State Duma is considering a bill according to which the upper limit of the conscription age will be 30 years, and the lower limit will be 21 hours. Changes are planned to be introduced from the spring recruitment campaign of 2024.

In January, the Minister of Defense of Russia, Sergei Shoigu, announced the task of increasing the number of Russian troops to one and a half million people within three years. It is assumed that almost half of them will be contractors.

Earlier, the Bloomberg agency reported that the number of Russian military personnel increased by 500 thousand in 2022. The official statistics of Rosstat gives a figure of 400 thousand soldiers. However, Bloomberg analysts note, these data are incomplete. They do not take into account about 100 thousand people recruited in structures that do not formally belong to the army – for example, PMC “Wagner”.

Also, from April 1, a new recruitment of contract workers into the army will begin in Russia; for this, the Ministry of Defense sent orders to the regions indicating the number of people with whom the relevant documents must be signed. Earlier, several regional mass media published the total number of contract workers, with whom, according to the plans of the Ministry of Defense, it is necessary to replenish the army – 400 thousand people.
