Journalist Mstislav Pysmenkov was detained without explanation in Verkhnaya Salda, Sverdlovsk Region. He was preparing a sketch about the life of the city. This is reported by It’s My City.

“The claim from the police: they say, why are you going, filming, asking questions. I didn’t enter any private territories, I went wherever possible,” Pysmenkov told the publication.

There is no communication with the journalist now. It is known that a lawyer is with him. The regional Ministry of Internal Affairs reported that they would check the information about his detention.

Pysmenkov came to Verkhnyaya Salda on the assignment of the Novaya Gazeta project. His editor told the Telegram channel “GovoritNeMoskva” that the journalist “was preparing sketches for the publication about the life of the cities and settlements of the Sverdlovsk Region.”

  • The day before, the Moscow City Court deprived “Novaya Gazeta” of its mass media license. The newspaper was published from 1993 until the beginning of the full-scale invasion of Ukraine. In March, “Novaya Gazeta” suspended the website and the print edition after two warnings from Roskomnadzor. After that, several of its journalists left Russia and launched the publication “Novaya gazeta. Evropa” with an editorial office in Riga.
