At the trial in Tolyatti, the prosecution requested that the former co-chairman of the Samara branch of the opposition party PARNAS, Andrei Balin, be sentenced to nine years in prison on the charge of spreading fakes about the Russian army. This is reported by “OVD-Info” with reference to the lawyer.
The accusation is related to six posts against the war in Ukraine, which were posted on the VKontakte social network. It is not known what exactly was said in them. The case was opened in June, and at first Balyn went through it as a witness. He was charged in July, and at the same time a restraining order was chosen in the form of a restraining order. Such a measure is often prescribed if the prosecution does not intend to insist on a real term. However, the prosecutor asked Balina to appoint one of the most severe punishments possible under the article on fakes. For example, blogger Nika Belotserkovskaya was sentenced to such a term – in absentia. Politician Ilya Yashin, now in prison, was sentenced to 8.5 years in prison.
Due to anti-war publications on social networks, Balin has already been fined in administrative cases for calling for sanctions against Russian officials and for discrediting the army.
Russian law enforcement agencies can consider any publication about the war, different from the official messages of the Ministry of Defense, to be fakes.
