In Tula, the deserter’s sentence was announced in the presence of 400 soldiers

In Tula, 400 servicemen attended the announcement of the verdict of a mobilized man accused of desertion. After delivering the verdict, the judge of the Tula Garrison Military Court gave a lecture to the military “on criminal responsibility for committing crimes against the order of military service,” the United Press Service of the city courts reports.

Mobilized was sent to a colony for five years. The message says that among the listeners were “the command staff of the military unit”, servicemen undergoing military service under contract and conscription and mobilized. It follows from the context that attendance could be mandatory.

The “7×7” edition notes that this is not the first demonstrative trial against a serviceman. In April, the military was gathered for a lecture in the same court for the announcement of the sentence of the deserting contractor. They were also given a lecture. Then the sentence was more severe: seven years in the colony.

• After the announced start of mobilization in the fall of 2022, legislation on desertion was tightened in Russia. According to a new article of the Criminal Code, deserters who leave a part or a place of service during the period of mobilization or war face up to 10 years in prison.
