The commander of the “Leningrad regiment”, colonel of the Russian army Yevgeny Vashunin, died in Ukraine, the speaker of the St. Petersburg Assembly, Alexander Belskyi, said.
According to Belsky, on July 14, the colonel with the support group advanced towards the “Storm” detachment, the movement was noticed by the Ukrainian military, which entered the battle. “During the clash, Vashunin was cut off from fellow soldiers and seriously wounded. Despite self-help measures taken, he died, selflessly fighting until the last minute,” the official said.
Where exactly the clash took place is not reported. Belsky only added that Vashunin was posthumously presented with the title of Hero of Russia.
The publication “Fontanka” notes that the “Leningrad regiment” was formed mainly from St. Petersburg mobilized. The collection of the city helped the division with equipment. At the end of April, Yevgeny Vashunin spoke in front of the city parliament and presented the governor Alexander Beglov with a regimental chevron.
