The Yakut city court sentenced Viktor Zabolotskyi, a participant in the war against Ukraine, to 7.5 years in a strict regime colony on charges of murdering a local resident. The convict inflicted fatal knife wounds on him during an argument concerning Zabolotskyi’s participation in the war. This follows from the materials of the case, notes Sibir.Realii.

The Telegram channel “Torboznoye Radio” drew attention to the court verdict. The murder took place on the morning of June 25 after the Ysyakh holiday in Yakutsk. The day before, on June 24, Zabolotsky stayed behind to guard the area where the party was held, got drunk and fell asleep. In the morning, he was awakened by two men, one of whom was the victim. They began to say that veterans of hostilities killed children and are recognized as occupiers, as a result of which a fight began between them and Zabolotskyi. They were separated, and the strangers left.

Later, one of the participants in the conflict returned and first apologized to Zabolotsky. But then the quarrel started again, which for Zabolotsky’s opponent ended in hospitalization and death in intensive care.

The knife with which the murder was committed was given to Viktor Zabolotsky on behalf of the head of Yakutia – for his participation in the war. On the handle of the knife there is an inscription: “Protect our Russia. A. Nikolaev.”

The court found Zabolotsky guilty of premeditated murder and sentenced him to 7.5 years of strict regime prison and compensation of moral damages in favor of the victim’s representative in the amount of 1 million rubles.

  • Against the background of the ongoing Russian invasion of Ukraine, there are regular reports of crimes committed by combatants returning from the war. In many cases, these are prisoners recruited in the colonies and recruited by PMC “Wagner”.
