Information about military casualties appeared on billboards in Russian cities

In Yekaterinburg, Rostov-on-Don, and Ulyanovsk, excerpts from the stories of those mobilized and their relatives about the war in Ukraine appeared on the screens of several electronic billboards.

In particular, information appeared on the billboards that the mobilized were thrown to the front line without minimal preparation, using them as “meat”. Also, on some shields, military stories about heavy losses in the ranks of the Russian army were placed.

The Yekaterinburg authorities called the incident a “break-in”, reported that the police are already looking for unknown hackers who reprogrammed the billboards. The administrations of the two other cities have not yet commented on the incident.

Earlier, the journalists of the Russian Service of the BBC together with “Mediazona” and a team of volunteers managed to confirm the death of 20,451 Russian soldiers in the war with Ukraine. They note a high level of casualties among the mobilized. Journalists managed to establish the death of 1,900 such servicemen. It is noted that 60% of them died after January 1 of this year. It is also known about 53 mobilized people who died on the territory of Russia in military units and collection points.

• The Ministry of Defense of Russia does not disclose data on personnel losses and does not comment on the figures reported by journalists. The authorities of Ukraine also do not report the number of dead soldiers.
• According to Western intelligence estimates, the losses of the Russian army in killed and wounded may reach 200 thousand people – up to 60 thousand of them could die.
