Journalist Ivan Safronov, who was convicted of treason, was sent to a colony in a detention center

The administration of correctional colony No. 7 of the Krasnoyarsk Territory at the beginning of summer sent journalist Ivan Safronov to a detention center, then he was in an infirmary. He wrote about this in a letter to activist Olga Elsakova, who handed over the correspondence to OVD-Info.

It is not known for how long and for what reason the journalist was sent to the SHIZO. He began to write his letter to Elsakova on June 1, but on the same day he was placed in an isolation ward, and later in a hospital. He was able to post only on June 18. The text says that after three days he can be sent for treatment again.

“The beginning of the summer was somehow not very good. But it would be at least naive to expect anything different from the Russian penitentiary system – everything can change very suddenly and literally in one moment,” Safronov noted. • Safronov is a former special correspondent of “Kommersant” and “Vedomosti”, he wrote about the military-industrial complex and cosmonautics. In September, the court found him guilty of passing on information related to the guest house to intelligence officers of NATO countries. He denies guilt.
• Shortly before his arrest, Safronov retired from journalism and began working at Roscosmos. Despite this, his colleagues and lawyers are sure that the prosecution was the result of his journalistic activities. FSB officers leading the investigation promised him a reduced sentence for providing his sources.
