Journalists confirmed the death of more than 25,500 Russian soldiers in Ukraine

As of June 16, it was possible to confirm the death of 25,528 Russian servicemen in the war with Ukraine. Among them, 2,498 people are mobilized Russians. Such data on losses are provided by “Mediazon” journalists together with the Russian Service of the BBC and a team of volunteers.
The most significant category of revealed losses still remain prisoners, journalists note. Most of the dead were from the Krasnodar region, Sverdlovsk and Chelyabinsk regions, Bashkiria, Buryatia and Volgograd region.
Journalists managed to confirm the death more than 2,150 officers of the Russian army and other security forces. 251 of them are in the rank of lieutenant colonel or higher. It is also known about 161 in the event of the death of military pilots.
According to published estimates, during the winter assault on Bakhmut, the Russian troops could have lost more people than in the first weeks of the war, when the offensive went in several directions at once.
Journalists have been collecting information about the dead Russian soldiers since the beginning of hostilities. Only those people whose death was established on the basis of open sources are included in the monitoring. The real number of losses, according to the authors of the study, can be significantly higher.
