Journalists will not be allowed into the hall on the territory of Vladimir Correctional Colony No. 6, where a new criminal case against politician Alexei Navalny will be heard. This was reported by “Mediazona” with reference to the representative of the press service of the Moscow City Court, Vadym Polezhaev.
As “Mediazona” reminds, last year, journalists who came to the colony for a meeting were offered to go to a specially prepared room, where a screen with a broadcast of the meeting was placed. Then the broadcast was periodically interrupted, and at the last word of Navalny, it was turned off without explaining the reasons. It was possible to enter the meeting hall only with a notebook and a pen.
The representative of the press service of the court stated that this time the rules will be different: “There will be no one in the room where the defendant, the judge and the defense attorneys will be, the reporters can be present in the same place as the cameras [в помещении с трансляцией]”, Polezhaev told the publication.
Mediazona notes that all trials in Navalny’s case are open, which means that anyone should be able to attend the hearings. The first meeting should be held on June 19.
- New charges against Navalny have been brought under seven articles of the Criminal Code. The most difficult of these articles is about the creation of an extremist community. The Russian authorities consider the Anti-Corruption Foundation and Navalny’s headquarters to be such associations. According to this article, a penalty of up to ten years of imprisonment may be threatened. Other articles are calls for extremism, the creation of an NGO that encroaches on the rights of citizens, the financing of extremism, the involvement of minors in committing dangerous acts, and the rehabilitation of Nazism. In a separate production, an episode on an article about terrorism is allocated.
- Navalny himself and his associates consider the criminal prosecution to be political.
