Kazakhstan’s railway administration will ban the transportation of oil and petroleum products to the Russian Black Sea port of Taman from May 8. This was reported by the Reuters agency, which has familiarized itself with the relevant order. The order is addressed to transport companies, the reasons for the ban are not specified.
The company “Russian Railways” has also suspended the transportation of oil to Taman since May 3. The reasons are also not specified in the RZD document, but it happened immediately after a fire at one of the oil storage tanks in Tamany. Presumably, the cause of the fire was a drone attack.
The city and port of Taman in the Krasnodar Territory is one of the important transport hubs for the shipment of energy carriers. In 2022, 7.3 million tons of oil, petroleum products, and liquefied gas from Russia, Kazakhstan, and Kyrgyzstan passed through it. The city is located in the immediate vicinity of the Krymsky (Kerchensky) bridge, through which oil products are also delivered to the annexed Crimea.
