At the Russian online cinema “Kinopoysk” a protocol was drawn up on the LGBT-related demonstration for children. This is at least the 34th case since April 2023.

An administrative case against “Kinopoysk”, which now belongs to “Yandex”, was discovered by “Mediazona” in the database of Moscow courts. The service faces a fine of up to four million rubles or suspension of work for up to 90 days. It is not known what exactly “Kinopoysk” is accused of.

Earlier it was reported that other Russian TV channels and online cinemas had made protocols for the LGBT demonstration in Russia. Among them are “TV-3 Russia”, “TNT Music”, More.tv, Ivi and Start. Peers.TV and Tricolor Cinema and TV have already been fined one million rubles each.

According to the representative of Start, the protocol for the service was drawn up due to the incorrectly specified age limit in the film “Ideal Strangers” – “16+”. According to Russian legislation, any LGBT-related demonstration is prohibited among minors.

  • Since December 2022, the dissemination of positive information about homosexuality, bisexuality and transgenderism has been prohibited in Russia. Fines of up to 400,000 rubles for citizens and up to five million rubles for organizations are provided for this.
  • According to human rights activists, after the start of the war with Ukraine and the adoption of amendments to the Russian legislation, 83% of LGBT+ representatives surveyed noticed an increase in homophobic and transphobic attitudes in Russian society. Also, LGBT people are less likely to turn to the police in case of discrimination and violence: they fear that they will face repeated discrimination.
