Kyivstar invested UAH 920 million in energy independence

The national telecom operator prepares in advance for possible winter blackouts and supplies the telecom network with diesel generators, long-life batteries and uninterrupted power sources.
Since the beginning of the full-scale war, Kyivstar has invested 920 million hryvnias in the energy independence of telecom networks.
In particular, the national telecom operator allocated more than UAH 680 million for the autonomous operation of mobile communications, and UAH 240 million for “Home Internet”.
Currently, the company uses more than 2,500 stationary and mobile diesel generators. Thanks to this, all key base stations, switches and critical telecom equipment have backup power.
The base stations are equipped with new long-life batteries that can work without external power for 4-6 hours. To date, the company has installed almost 37,000 such batteries and continues this work.
Kyivstar also took care of subscribers who use the fixed-speed Internet service – the “Home Internet” service. So, according to the company’s plans, by the end of this year, 70% of the fixed Internet network will be protected from power outages.
For this purpose, by the end of the year, 50,000 uninterruptible power supply units will be installed for “Home Internet”. In addition, the company is working on the introduction of energy-efficient GPON technology.
The development of the “Home Internet” network using this technology is planned for the fourth quarter of 2023.
Kyivstar communication services are used by 24 million subscribers, and “Home Internet” services by more than 1 million subscribers. The telecom operator is steadily developing and rebuilding the telecom network in order to provide its subscribers with stable, high-quality communication and data transmission services.
