Lukashenko banned citizens of Belarus from using drones

The authoritarian leader of Belarus, Alexander Lukashenko, has banned citizens of the country from importing, storing, selling and manufacturing drones, as well as using them for personal purposes. Lukashenko signed the corresponding decree “On state accounting and operation of civilian unmanned aerial vehicles” on Monday.
According to the document, the use of civilian drones is possible only after receiving official permission from the Department of Aviation of the Ministry of Transport of Belarus. Theoretically, such permission can be obtained by organizations and legal entities that use drones exclusively for “entrepreneurial and professional activities.”
The decree also states that residents of Belarus have six months to sell the drones they already have or hand them over to an “authorized organization designated by the government.” The document does not specify what kind of organization this is.
- In a number of Russian regions, after the Russian large-scale invasion of Ukraine, and especially after drones began to strike targets in Russia on a regular basis, restrictions on the use of drones by private individuals were introduced.
