Mamut rejected the message of “Meduza” about the opening of the “liberal mass media”

Russian billionaire Alexander Mamut, former co-owner of “Rambler” and the owner of Gazeta.ru and Lenta.ru, denied Meduza’s report that he plans to open a liberal media in Europe.

“As before, when “Meduza” wrote about me, this news is a provocative, unadulterated lie, pursuing the only goal – to take revenge on me for the early termination of the employment contract with Galina Tymchenko (former editor-in-chief of Lenty.ru and founder of “Meduza” – approx. RS) in 2014 with the payment of her remuneration only an hour in advance,” said Mamut in a conversation with Lenta.ru.

According to Mamut, after the sale of the Rambler holding in 2020, he was not going to start a new mass media.

The businessman did not comment on his departure from Russia, which “Meduza” also wrote about yesterday. According to “Meduza”, after Russia’s attack on Ukraine, Mamut left the country and, according to interlocutors, now lives alternately in Great Britain and France.

Alexander Mamut has been under US sanctions since 2018, but was not included in European sanctions lists – even after the start of a full-scale war. Mamut is included in the so-called list of 6,000 corrupt and warmongers compiled by the Anti-Corruption Foundation (Alexei Navalny’s associates accuse him of “political corruption”).

One of Meduza’s sources in Mamut’s circle reported that the billionaire is very afraid of falling under Western sanctions and very much wants to become a “good Russian”. To do this, the businessman allegedly wants to create media that should “promote a liberal agenda.”
