12-year-old Masha Moskalyova wrote a letter from the shelter to her father – Alexey Moskalyov, who was sentenced to two years in prison yesterday for anti-war comments on social networks. Masha calls her father her hero and urges him not to give up. She is sure that Moskalyov is not guilty of anything and hopes for a meeting.

The girl indicates that she does not want to write about her health and mood so as not to upset her father.

“One day we will sit at the table and remember all this. I love you, I know that you will not give up, you are strong, we are strong, we can do it, and I will pray for you and for us, papa. I am proud. Yes, Dad, I can say that I am proud of my father. Proud, smart, handsome, stubborn and who loves his daughter so much,” Masha wrote.

The full text of the letter is published by Sever.Realii.

Masha Moskalyova has been in the shelter since March 1, after her father’s arrest. According to human rights activists, her mobile phone was taken from her. Visitors, including the local deputy, human rights defenders and volunteers, are not allowed to it.

On March 28, a single father from the city of Efremov, Tula Region, Aleksey Moskalyov, was found guilty of the so-called repeated discrediting of the army due to comments on social networks. The court sentenced him to two years of imprisonment in a general regime colony.

The defendant was not present at the hearing. The representative of the court said that Moskalyov had escaped from house arrest. Lawyer Vladimir Bilyenko told journalists that he knew nothing about the escape of his client.

  • Moskalev’s case received wide publicity when his daughter Masha, a sixth grade student, was persecuted. In April 2022, in class, a girl drew a picture in which a woman with a Ukrainian flag shields a child from flying missiles. After that, on the initiative of the school staff, the family was checked by the police and the FSB. Moskalyov was threatened with deprivation of parental rights.
  • On March 1, Alexey Moskalyov was detained. According to his report, he was beaten in the police department. Guardianship authorities placed Masha Moskalyova in a social shelter. Further, the court determined Moskalyov’s preventive measure in the form of house arrest. The daughter was not given to him.
  • On March 12, the Juvenile Affairs Commission of the city of Efremov, Tula region filed a lawsuit to restrict Moskalyov’s parental rights. The same lawsuit was filed against Masha’s mother, who does not live with the family.
