Mathematician Azat Myftakhov was placed in the SHIZO in the colonies

Mathematician Azat Miftakhov, who is serving a sentence under the article on hooliganism for political reasons, was placed in a penal isolation ward (SHIZO) in the colony. According to the Telegram channel in his support, the reason was Myftakhov’s refusal to write an explanatory note about the violation of the rules of procedure. The violation consisted in the fact that the contents of his bag did not match the description.

Placement in a special educational institution may have negative consequences for Myftakhov. He was sentenced to six years in prison in January 2021. In April 2022, Myftakhov’s prison term was reduced by three months. Thus, in the absence of the accused from the administration of the colony, he could apply for parole after a few months.

It is reported that this is already the second violation on Myftakhov’s account. A few weeks earlier, the inspector found a deodorant in his bedside table, which he considered an inadmissible item in the colony.

• Azat Myftakhov was detained on February 1, 2019 on suspicion of illegal manufacture of explosives. According to him, the police beat confessions out of him under torture. Later, the members of the Public Monitoring Commission confirmed the fact of the use of violence against Miftahov.
• In January 2021, Myftahov was sentenced to six years in prison. According to the investigation, in January 2018, anarchists broke the glass in the office of the United Russia party on Onezhskaya Street in Moscow and threw a smoke grenade inside. Myftakhov was accused of handing the checkers to the anarchists, and during the action he was nearby and monitored the situation.
• The criminal case was based on the testimony of secret witnesses. The rest of the accused received conditional terms.
• Hundreds of Russian and international scientists, mathematicians and public figures demanded an end to the persecution of graduate student Mehmat of Moscow State University. The Human Rights Center “Memorial” recognized him as a political prisoner.
