Mathematician Azat Miftakhov, who is serving a sentence under the article on hooliganism for political reasons, was placed in a penal isolation ward (SHIZO) in the colony. According to the Telegram channel in his support, the reason was Myftakhov’s refusal to write an explanatory note about the violation of the rules of procedure. The violation consisted in the fact that the contents of his bag did not match the description.

Placement in a special educational institution may have negative consequences for Myftakhov. He was sentenced to six years in prison in January 2021. In April 2022, Myftakhov’s prison term was reduced by three months. Thus, in the absence of the accused from the administration of the colony, he could apply for parole after a few months.

It is reported that this is already the second violation on Myftakhov’s account. A few weeks earlier, the inspector found a deodorant in his bedside table, which he considered an inadmissible item in the colony.

  • Hundreds of Russian and international scientists, mathematicians and public figures demanded an end to the persecution of graduate student Mehmat of Moscow State University. The Human Rights Center “Memorial” recognized him as a political prisoner.
