“Friends” star Matthew Perry died of “acute effects of ketamine,” the Los Angeles County medical examiner said in a statement.
Contributing causes included “drowning, ischemic heart disease and exposure to buprenorphine,” which is used to treat opioid use disorders, according to the autopsy report.
However, primarily ego death is explained by the “acute effect of ketamine”. According to reports, the actor received “ketamine infusion therapy for depression and anxiety.” At the same time, the last procedure took place a week and a half before his death – this means that ketamine in his body could not be the result of this procedure.
“With the high level of ketamine found in his blood samples, the main causes of death were both excessive overstimulation of the cardiovascular system and respiratory depression,” according to the report, which is cited by CNN.
Experts also noted that the level of ketamine found in Perry’s blood was equivalent to the amount used during general anesthesia.
