More than 900 Russian soldiers are suing hospitals

More than 900 Russian servicemen have filed lawsuits against hospitals since the beginning of the war in Ukraine. Soldiers complain that they are not given certificates of injury or that the category of fitness is inflated in order to recognize them as fit for further service.
According to the publication, from March 2022 to December 2023, at least 922 wounded people were sued for hospitals. They are trying to challenge the decisions of military medical commissions.
“Some servicemen do not agree with the fact that the doctors assessed their injury as minor and did not issue a certificate of injury – without this document, the servicemen cannot receive monetary compensation from the state. Others believe that they are too sick to continue fighting,” Vyorstka clarifies. “.
Journalists claim that only 35 of the 866 lawsuits against hospitals that have already been evaluated by the judges were satisfied. At the same time, the courts side with the servicemen if they agree that the military doctors unreasonably overestimated the fitness category. However, the publication clarifies, it is not uncommon for military personnel to go to court during the leave they receive after treatment in the hospital. They often do not have time to take part in the judicial process: after the leave, they are taken back to the front.
