The leading international law firm Covington & Burling LLP presented a strategy to forcibly collect from Russia $5 billion in compensation for the seizure of Naftogaz Group’s assets in Crimea.

The corresponding meeting took place in Washington (USA) today, April 19, 2023, with the participation of the head of the Naftogaz Group Oleksiy Chernyshov.

“We do not expect voluntary compensation from the Russian Federation, therefore, together with the leading law firm Covington & Burling LLP, we are working out all possible mechanisms for the recognition and enforcement of the arbitration award using legal mechanisms. We cannot disclose details, but we have a clear strategy,” – explained Oleksiy Chernyshov.

He also thanked the partners who support Ukraine and the Naftogaz Group in the fight for justice.

“Crimes cannot and will not go unpunished. I thank our partners for working together in this direction and for the results we have already achieved,” added the head of the Naftogaz Group.

We remind you that on April 12, 2023, the Arbitration Tribunal at the Permanent Chamber of the Arbitration Court in The Hague ordered Russia to pay $5 billion in compensation for losses and lost property of Naftogaz in Crimea.
