Verbatim DBR: “According to preliminary estimates, approximately 10 billion hryvnias were laundered from the state budget every month by customs officials. This is a third of what the institution should have collected during the month, that is, every third hryvnia from customs fees went into the pockets of corrupt officials.”
Details: It is reported that searches have already begun in the Central Office of the State Customs Service and the Volyn, Lviv, Ternopil, Chernivtsi, Odesa, Kyiv, Rivne and Zakarpattia regional customs offices of Ukraine.
Also, about 50 subjects of economic activity were established, which helped the customs officers to implement shadow schemes. Currently, their activities are blocked, the Bureau says.
Law enforcement officers work at separate sections of the state border of Ukraine and at checkpoints with the aim of stopping illegal activities and eliminating smuggling schemes.
It is noted that more detailed information on the commission of corruption offenses by employees of the State Customs Service and the activities of its territorial bodies will be provided after the completion of primary investigative actions.
What preceded: At a meeting on Wednesday, February 1, the Cabinet of Ministers dismissed the management staff of the Ukrainian customs.
