During the war in Ukraine, one of the members of the group of so-called “primary partisans” Alexander Kovtun died. It is confirmed that earlier Kovtun, who served a 25-year term, signed a contract with PMC Wagner.

This channel is run by the United Legal Union of Primorye, it publishes information about various criminal incidents in the region. It is confirmed that Kovtun died on January 29, exactly where and under what circumstances – it is not reported.
Kovtun’s death was not officially reported in Ukraine. The press service of the Primorsky Police Service of Ukraine and the regional public monitoring commission said that they had no information about the prisoner’s fate.
A group of young people, who in 2010 committed a series of attacks on law enforcement officers in the Primorsky Krai, began to be called “Prymorsky partisans”. They killed two policemen and wounded several others. The members of the group claimed that they were killing police officers for ideological reasons, accusing them of corruption and other crimes. In June 2010, two “partisans” committed suicide when the police stormed an apartment in Ussuriysk, which housed members of the group, and four, including Kovtun, were detained. On charges of banditry and other crimes, Alexander Kovtun was sentenced to life imprisonment, then the sentence was commuted to 25 years. It was claimed that in the end he accepted Islam.
In the summer and autumn of last year, Wagner PMC actively recruited prisoners to participate in the war in Ukraine. They were promised a pardon after six months of fighting. According to numerous reports, among the recruited prisoners at the front there are large losses. The exact number of recruited prisoners is not known, according to estimates, there may be several tens of thousands. The founder of “PMC Wagner” Yevgeny Prigozhin recently announced that the recruitment of prisoners has been completed.
