OTP Bank reacted to the inclusion in the list of international sponsors of the war

OTP Bank Ukraine published a statement in which they called false information about the activities of OTP Group in the Russian market. This was reported by the press service of the Ukrainian OTP Bank.

“False information about OTP Group’s work on the Russian market is currently being spread in the mass media,” the message says.
The bank stated that OTP Group has drastically reduced its presence on the Russian market for 2022:
- the market share decreased to 0.17%;
- lending to legal entities was stopped;
- corporate credit portfolio reduced by 75%.
“OTP Group has repeatedly stated that it is looking for opportunities to exit the market, including with the involvement of Rothschild Martin Maurel consultants, and the sale procedure is legally blocked. The information about the recognition of illegal formations of “L/DPR”, as well as about the provision of preferential loans to servicemen, is not true!”, the bank emphasized.
The financial institution also added that the management of OTP Group constantly publicly expresses support for our country and, together with the management of OTP Bank in Ukraine, strongly condemns the war.
“Our colleagues on the front line defend our country in the ranks of the Armed Forces. This is also material support for the army, hospitals, orphanages of over one hundred million hryvnias from OTP Bank Ukraine and OTP Leasing. To finance the state expenses of the OTP, the Bank purchased government bonds worth more than UAH 5.5 billion,” the bank said.

The Ministry of Finance wrote that the National Agency for the Prevention of Corruption (NAPK) included the Hungarian OTP Bank in the list of international sponsors of the war.
The decision was made due to the position of the bank’s management to continue operations in Russia and the actual recognition of the so-called Donetsk and Luhansk “people’s republics”.
The NAPC stated that OTP is one of the 50 largest banks in Russia and serves more than 2.2 million clients. It is represented in more than 1,850 settlements of the terrorist state, which emphasizes its importance for the economy of the Russian Federation, which is struggling with sanctions and trying to circumvent them.
