Participants in the war will be able to study in the Russian Federation on the budget, even if there are no places

Students of colleges and universities who participated in the war in Ukraine will be able to transfer to a budget form of education, even if there are no budget places in their faculties. The resolution on the redistribution of vacant seats was adopted by the Russian government. Additional budget seats will be provided to combatants due to vacant seats at less popular faculties.

“An economist student will be able to switch to free education at the expense of a budget place, which is available in the history or any other faculty,” the press service of the Cabinet of Ministers explained.

In June 2023, Russian President Vladimir Putin amended the Law on Education. According to them, the participants of the invasion of Ukraine and their children are given priority when entering colleges and universities, and the children of the dead and wounded can enter any university without exams. Separate quotas are allocated for them.

The publication “Important Histories” calculated that at least 833 applicants were enrolled in the budget for prestigious universities because their parents fought in Ukraine. At least 203 applicants were admitted without exams. Most of all – at the Institute of Physics, St. Petersburg State University and Moscow State University. Another 429 scored below the passing score and still passed the budget training.
