Petersburg police officers were called to use the experience of the NKVD in Ukraine

[ad_1]

The heads of the police departments of St. Petersburg and the Leningrad region sent a report on the struggle of the NKVD with “nationalist formations” in the western regions of the Soviet Union. “Fontanka” writes about this. The publication published a photo of the first page of the document, a total of 28 pages.

The police advice is based on the experience of Soviet state security personnel during business trips to the territory of Ukraine “when conducting a special military operation.” The document was prepared at the VNII of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Russia, the police had to study the material in April.

In May 2022, 130 employees of the special regiment of the State Department of the Ministry of Internal Affairs in St. Petersburg and the Leno Oblast were sent to war in Ukraine. The police are guarding objects in the territories of the Donetsk and Luhansk regions under the control of Russian troops, reports Sever.Realii.

It is not clear whether the document refers to the activities of the NKVD only on the territory of Western Ukraine, or also in the Baltic countries and Belarus.

At the end of the Second World War and for more than a decade after its end, detachments of the Ukrainian Insurgent Army waged an armed struggle against the Soviet government in western Ukraine. According to official Soviet data, as a result of the activities of the Ukrainian armed underground in 1944-1956, more than 8 thousand Soviet servicemen and NKVD employees died in western Ukraine. Tens of thousands of rebels were also killed, many were sentenced to long prison terms. Repressions also affected residents of the western regions of Ukraine, who did not directly participate in the activities of the UPA. The organized resistance of the UPA detachments was broken only by the mid-1950s, separate partisan groups existed until the end of the 1950s.

It is not known what lessons the police should learn from the activities of the NKVD in the western regions of the USSR – the full text of the Ministry of Internal Affairs report has not been published.
