Lawyer Gennady Shishebarov, who defends the head of the laboratory of the Institute of Thermal Physics of the Siberian Branch of the Russian Academy of Sciences, corresponding member Oleg Kabov, who is accused of fraud, made a sharp criticism of the criminal case. He called on fellow scientists to give an opinion on the physicist’s case.
The scientist is accused of the fact that when the employees of the applied research laboratory carried out work on the scientific project, the set goals were not achieved, and the reporting and design documentation were allegedly falsified. In this regard, the investigation considers their receipt of a stimulating allowance in the amount exceeding 7 million rubles as embezzlement.
“Thus, today the most complex problems of science are no longer the subject of scientific research, they are the subject of the activities of operatives, investigators, and prosecutors. It turns out that it is enough to have a uniform and epaulettes to understand them with ease,” Shishebarov writes in his appeal. The Sibir.Realii site notes that the text of the appeal is available to the editors.
According to the lawyer, in Russia there are no scientifically based methods of conducting judicial scientific and technical examinations, which creates conditions for arbitrariness in relation to Russian scientists. Shyshebarov asks the scientific community to give an independent assessment of the expertise, on the basis of which the charges against his client were brought.
On April 5, the Soviet District Court of Novosibirsk began to consider the criminal case of the 68-year-old scientist. He faces up to 10 years in prison.
