The Ministry of Defense of Poland agreed to send an additional military contingent to the border with Belarus – after a corresponding request from the border service. This was reported by the local news agency PAP on Tuesday.
A day earlier, the Polish Ministry of Internal Affairs informed that the request for reinforcements stated the need to deploy an additional one thousand military personnel on the border.
As noted by Reuters, Poland earlier started erecting barriers on the border with Belarus, equipped with electronic protection devices.
The Polish authorities declared that fighters of the Russian PMC “Wagner” had been spotted at the border in recent weeks. Prime Minister Mateusz Morawiecki linked the situation with attempts to destabilize the situation on NATO’s eastern flank.
- Mercenaries of PMC “Wagner” began to arrive in Belarus after the demand for rebellion in Russia at the end of June. The Belarusian authorities have announced that they will train the Belarusian military. Wagner soldiers arrive in Belarus without heavy armored vehicles. Their main camp is located in the Mogilev region.
- The other day, Belarusian authoritarian leader Alexander Lukashenko called his words a joke about the fact that the Wagnerians in Belarus told him about their plans to “go on an excursion” to Poland. At the same time, Lukashenko expressed confidence that the Wagnerites could indeed attack Poland, and noted that only the Belarusian authorities would prevent them from doing so.
